A timber frame home will most likely cost more than a stick frame or conventionally framed home. However, a 15% to 25% increase in the cost between stick frame and timber frame construction is typical. Considering the craftsmanship, quality, and beauty, the cost of architectural timbering is very much in line with the cost of a custom-built home. Every frame is custom designed and built, so the cost depends on the number of individual timbers in the frame and the number and complexity of the joints. Therefore, a small, intricate frame with lots of features may cost more than a simple frame twice its size. If the extra cost is not something your budget can handle, you might want to consider other alternatives: a completely stick-framed home, or partially timber-framed home (hybrid).
